Students and staff at Sharada Vidya Mandira School celebrated World Environment Day on Friday, 5th June. The day was marked by various activities aimed at raising awareness about environmental issues and promoting sustainable practices. The Department of Science along with ECO CLUB has hosted the event with the theme – “Beat Plastic Pollution”. The event kicked off with an introductory speech by Arpita Sahu of grade VIII and tree-planting ceremony by board members, Principal, Vice-principal and by Science department ECO CLUB teachers. The school organizing committee purchased saplings from the forest department for students and asked them to plant it around the campus.

This was followed by a series of competitions. The highlight of the day was a recycling competition, where students were challenged to create useful items from used plastic items. The creativity and the ingenuity displayed by the participants were truly impressive, with entries ranging from birdhouses made from plastic bottles to pencil holders crafted from old newspapers. The school also organized declamation, which was enlightening. The participants delivered their speeches with great confidence and left no stone unturned to give in their best on the topics they got. 

The other competitions were poster making, singing competition and fancy dress competition. The event emphasized the importance of taking care of the environment and urged everyone to make small changes in their daily lives, such as reducing plastic usage and conserving water, to contribute towards a healthier planet. The event concluded with a pledge-taking ceremony, where students and staff vowed to do their part in protecting the environment and preserving it for future generations.

Overall, the Environment Day celebration was a resounding success. They served as a reminder that we all have a role to play in safeguarding our planet and that even small actions can make a big difference.
